  Date : 13-01-2026

International Desk: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Lesotho’s Prime Minister Sam Matekane on January 10 in Maseru. Prime Minister Matekane warmly welcomed Wang Yi to the “Kingdom in the Sky,” noting that Lesotho places great importance on its longstanding friendship with China and the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries. He expressed sincere appreciation for China’s invaluable support for Lesotho’s development, as well as for the broader progress of African nations. Wang Yi said that following the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in 2024, the two sides have jointly advanced the implementation of the “Ten Partnership Actions,” successfully delivering a number of key projects that have provided strong momentum for Lesotho’s development. He reaffirmed China’s readiness to deepen exchanges with Lesotho on governance experience, enhance coordination in multilateral affairs, and further advance the bilateral strategic partnership. Wang Yi also commended Lesotho for its firm adherence to the one-China principle, stressing that China will always stand firmly with African countries. He underscored China’s commitment to upholding fairness and justice for Lesotho and other countries of the Global South, opposing unilateralism and hegemonic practices, and working shoulder to shoulder to promote the building of a community with a shared future for humanity.
