| Saiful Islam: Global climate change is no longer just a future threat, it is a harsh reality of the present. Its most terrible and silent victims are children. Children`s lives, health, education and mental development are at serious risk in climate-related disasters such as cyclones, floods, droughts, river erosion, heat waves and salinity. According to experts, children are the most vulnerable to the negative effects of climate change because they are relatively weak physically and mentally. Lack of safe shelter, shortage of clean water, food shortage and inadequate healthcare during disasters are increasing the risk of malnutrition, disease and death in children. Children`s lives in a health and nutrition crisis: With the increase in temperature due to climate change, diarrhea, dengue, malaria and respiratory diseases are increasing. Especially children living in coastal and char areas are suffering from skin diseases and malnutrition due to salt water. Health experts say that malnourished children are easily susceptible to serious diseases, which makes their future lives uncertain. A major blow to the education system Many schools are being damaged due to cyclones and floods, and educational activities are closed for long periods in many areas. As a result, thousands of children are dropping out of the education system. Post-disaster displacement is blocking children`s access to school and in many cases increasing the risk of being involved in child labor. Negative impact on mental health: Losing loved ones, destroying homes and having an uncertain future during disasters are having a profound impact on children`s mental health. Child psychologists say that climate-related trauma is creating fear, depression and lack of self-confidence in children, which can hinder their personality development in the long run. Urgent action called for child protection: Experts and development agencies say that children`s needs must be given utmost importance in climate adaptation and disaster management. Emphasis is being placed on building child-friendly shelters, safe water and nutritious food, strengthening healthcare and disaster-resilient educational institutions. At the same time, those concerned have urged to raise children`s climate awareness, include their opinions in policymaking, and increase international cooperation. Initiatives are necessary now to protect future generations: According to experts, today`s children are tomorrow`s citizens and leaders. Ensuring their protection from the impacts of climate change means building a safe and sustainable future. If effective and coordinated initiatives are not taken now, innocent children will pay the biggest price for climate change.
