Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant Prof. Ali Riaz on Saturday clarified that government employees are legally permitted to campaign in favor of “Yes” vote in the upcoming national referendum.

Speaking as the chief guest at an exchange meeting with divisional officials and representatives on referendum campaigning and voter mobilisation, held at BIAM Foundation auditorium in Dhaka and organised by Dhaka Divisional Administration, Ali Riaz emphasized that the referendum is not intended to bring any political party to power or block one, but is focused on state reforms based on the July National Charter, described as “written in blood” and belonging to all Bangladeshis.

He noted that constitutional experts, former judges and legal professionals have unanimously confirmed that there is no legal restriction preventing public servants from supporting the “Yes” vote.

“Claims to the contrary are misleading and motivated by ulterior interests,” he warned.

Ali Riaz added that government employees are not only officials but also citizens with a civic duty to raise awareness about the referendum and encourage public participation.

Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Monir Haider, speaking as a special guest, highlighted that the referendum will present 48 constitutional reform recommendations under four categories, but ultimately asks whether the people support or oppose the July uprising.

He cautioned that failure of the referendum could open the door to the return of fascism.

The meeting was attended by senior government officials from Dhaka division, including district commissioners, police superintendents and other officials.
