  Date : 13-03-2026

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Standing Committee member and Prime Minister`s Adviser Mirza Abbas underwent a second round of brain surgery on Friday evening.

The second phase of surgery begun around 6.30 PM at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka, after complications arose following the first procedure.

The first surgery began at 3 pm and was completed by 6:15 pm. Doctors then decided to proceed with a second operation due to further medical complications. The second surgery was still underway at the time of the last report.

Physicians said Mirza Abbas could be transferred to Singapore for advanced treatment if his condition improves following the second surgery. His family has already completed all necessary arrangements, including securing an air ambulance for the potential transfer.

Family members said Mirza Abbas collapsed and lost consciousness while drinking water during iftar on Wednesday evening. His condition deteriorated rapidly, and he was admitted to Evercare Hospital in Dhaka`s Bashundhara residential area that same night.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman visited the hospital on Friday afternoon, spoke with the attending medical team and inquired about the treatment plan.

Local Government Minister and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, opposition leader and Jamaat Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman, and senior leaders from various political parties also visited the hospital to check on his condition and console the family.

The family and the party have appealed to the nation to pray for Mirza Abbas`s recovery.
