International: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Cambodia’s acting head of state Hun Sen in Phnom Penh on April 23.
During the meeting, Hun Sen described China as Cambodia’s closest and most trusted friend, emphasizing that Chinese support and cooperation are the strongest pillars for Cambodia’s development and security. He affirmed that regardless of changes in the international environment, the Cambodian People’s Party and the government remain committed to a friendly policy toward China and unwavering in advancing bilateral cooperation.
Hun Sen also expressed Cambodia’s willingness to strengthen strategic exchanges with China, deepen strategic cooperation, ensure political security, enhance economic resilience, carry forward bilateral friendship across generations, and promote the building of a community with a shared future.
In response, Wang Yi noted that, with the support of both countries’ leaders, the first meeting of the “2+2” strategic dialogue mechanism at the level of foreign and defense ministers was successfully held, achieving broad consensus. The two sides agreed on supporting each other’s core interests, advancing comprehensive cooperation, strengthening collaboration in law enforcement and security, and enhancing multilateral coordination.
He added that the “2+2” mechanism will help deepen strategic mutual trust, inject fresh momentum into the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, advance the building of a community with a shared future in the new era, and play an important role in jointly addressing global and regional challenges.
The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues.
