Record Grain Procurement Further Reinforces China’s Food Security
  Date : 10-05-2026

International Desk: Recent data released by China’s National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration (NFSRA) show that the peak procurement season for the country’s 2025 autumn grain harvest concluded in April. Grain traders across China purchased more than 338 million tons of autumn grain, marking a comparatively high level compared with recent years. The procurement season was characterized by rapid progress, active market transactions and steadily rising prices.

Luo Shouquan, Director of the Grain Reserves Department of the NFSRA, stated that this season’s autumn grain harvest was completed earlier than usual and the overall quality of the crops remained generally strong. Farmers actively sold their produce, while enterprises maintained robust purchasing activities, creating a vibrant trading environment. As a result, grain procurement prices remained stable with a gradual upward trend.

China is now preparing to launch its 2026 summer grain procurement season. The NFSRA said it will intensify analysis and assessment of summer grain market conditions, while guiding local authorities and related enterprises to formulate procurement plans in advance. The administration also pledged to make comprehensive preparations for summer grain collection efforts and continue working to maintain stable grain market operations and keep grain prices within a reasonable range.

The strong procurement performance is widely seen as another step toward enhancing China’s long-term food security and ensuring stable agricultural supply chains amid evolving global economic conditions.
