Five people, including four of a family, were killed when a private car hit a parked truck at Maligram on the Dhaka-Bhanga Expressway in Faridpur early Tuesday.
Two other people were also injured in the accident that occurred approximately 4:30AM.
The truck was loaded with gas cylinders.
The car was travelling from Dhaka to Jashore when it struck the parked truck by the roadside at high speed, said Shibchar Highway Police Station SI Nur Alam.
Four died on the spot. The impact left the car severely mangled.
Bhanga Fire Service Station officer Abu Jafar said that getting information, Fire Service personnel and police members rushed to the scene and rescued the injured. The injured were first taken to Upazila Health Complex and later, shifted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for better treatment where one succumbed to his injuries there.
Four of the deceased were identified as Nurjahan, 50, wife of Md Shahidul of Baliadanga village in Jashore`s Jhikargacha upazila; their son Arif, 25, and daughter Ayesha, 28; and Jahid, 30, the private car driver.
The damaged private car and the truck were seized and taken to Shibchar Highway Police Station.
