The Ad-Deen Hospital authorities have expressed deep sorrow and grief over the death of six newborns.
They said that they are deeply shocked and that they are completely unknown of the reason for the deaths.
The investigation report on the incident is scheduled to be submitted today, June 3.
In this regard, recurrent affairs analyst Mohammad Tajul Islam, and chief adviser to The Muslim Timesi, said that it is not appropriate to blame any party unilaterally until the full investigation report is received.
He said that Ad-Din Hospital has been providing medical services since 1997. Thousands of children have been born from this hospital and returned home healthy.
He said that the main responsibility of every medical center or hospital is to save lives, not to kill people.
Since the Ad-Din Hospital authorities say that the cause of death is completely unknown to them, it is only right that the government investigation should reveal the real issue and then experts should take action accordingly, the analyst said.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain said that action will be taken as per the advice of the Attorney General regarding the death of six newborns at the capital`s Ad-Din Hospital.
He said that the Attorney General has been informed about the kind of activities the ministry is taking regarding the incident and how the work is progressing. Further action will be taken as per the legal advice given by him.
He told reporters after a meeting with the Attorney General at the Health Ministry.
At that time, the Health Minister also said that an investigation committee is being formed in the Ministry of Health as well as the Directorate General of Health. It is necessary to hear the views of the affected mothers to make the ministry`s investigation report more accurate and realistic. Although there was some delay in forming the Directorate General of Health`s investigation committee due to the Eid holidays, it is already in its final stage. Both the investigation committees are expected to submit their reports within the next three days.
He said the hospital authorities have admitted that a license was issued by the Department of Environment to operate a bakery inside Ad-Din Hospital. How and why such a license was issued on the hospital premises is also being investigated.
The Health Minister further said that action will be taken against anyone found negligent or guilty in the investigation as per the law. Necessary steps will be taken to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future.
