Kamrul Hasan : Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam Rita, MP, has called upon people to embrace the ideals of martyred President Ziaur Rahman and work with both heart and conscience in order to build a developed and prosperous Bangladesh.
She said that when honesty, humanity, and a sense of responsibility are combined in both personal and public life, the likelihood of making wrong decisions becomes minimal.
The Minister made these remarks while addressing a book fair and discussion meeting as the chief guest on Saturday night (13 June) at the District Shilpakala Academy auditorium, organised to mark the 45th martyrdom anniversary of martyred President Ziaur Rahman.
The programme was jointly arranged by Zia Smriti Library, the Doctors` Association of Bangladesh (DAB), and the District Zia Parishad.
Addressing the audience, the Minister said, "The core strengths of martyred President Ziaur Rahman`s political philosophy were patriotism, self-reliance, and leadership dedicated to the welfare of the people. If we perform our respective duties guided by our hearts and consciences and remain committed to implementing development initiatives with sincerity and dedication, the scope for making wrong decisions becomes very limited."
She further said that everyone must contribute from their respective positions as responsible citizens to accelerate the country`s ongoing development and democratic progress. She particularly emphasised the importance of instilling patriotism, morality, and humanitarian values among the younger generation.
The meeting, chaired by Dr. Mohammad Ziaur Rahman Zia, was addressed by the Vice-Chancellor of Khulna Medical University, Professor Dr. Rakibus Saleheen, as the keynote speaker. He highlighted various aspects of martyred President Ziaur Rahman`s vision of statecraft, his contributions to the expansion of education, and his role in fostering national unity.
Officials from the local administration, leaders of the district BNP and its associate bodies, teachers, journalist leaders, and distinguished individuals from different walks of life were present at the programme.
Following the discussion, special prayers were offered seeking eternal peace and forgiveness for the souls of martyred President Ziaur Rahman, former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, the late Arafat Rahman Koko, former minister the late Harunar Rashid Khan Monnoo, and Huron Nahar Rashid.
Special prayers were also offered for the good health and long life of BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, as well as for the peace, welfare, and prosperity of the country.
Earlier, the Minister planted a neem sapling on the academy premises to help maintain environmental balance.
