Kamrul Hasan: To help ensure food security for low-income and underprivileged people, 275 poor and distressed families in Manikganj Municipality have received 30 kilograms of VGF (Vulnerable Group Feeding) rice each from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman`s Relief Fund.
The distribution programme was inaugurated on Saturday morning in Manikganj Municipality. The initiative was carried out under the instruction of Afroza Khanam Rita, MP, Member of Parliament for Manikganj-3 and Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism, with supervision from leaders and activists of the Manikganj District BNP and its affiliated and associate organizations.
According to the organizers, the initiative was undertaken as part of the government`s social safety net programmes to provide food assistance to genuinely disadvantaged and low-income families. Each enlisted family received 30 kilograms of VGF rice. The distribution began at 9:00 a.m. and was completed smoothly by 12:30 p.m.
Among those present during the distribution were Asaduzzaman Khan Dolon, Member of the Convener Committee of Manikganj District BNP; Shamim Al Mamun, former Publicity Secretary of the district BNP; Zahirul Islam, President of Ward No. 4 BNP of Manikganj Municipality; Nurul Islam, General Secretary of Ward No. 6 BNP; Humayun Kabir, former General Secretary of Ward No. 5 BNP; along with other leaders of the district BNP and its affiliated organizations.
Speakers at the programme said that the primary objective of the government`s humanitarian and social safety net initiatives is to stand beside disadvantaged people and ensure their access to essential food assistance. They expressed hope that such welfare-oriented programmes would continue in the future.
