BRUR Correspondent: The modernized reading room and mosque at Bijoy-24 Hall of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) have been inaugurated. An air-conditioning (AC) unit has also been installed in the reading room.

BRUR Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Showkat Ali inaugurated the renovated mosque and reading room, along with the AC installation, at around 1:00pm on Wednesday (September 9) on the second floor of Bijoy-24 Hall.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Shawkat Ali said, “When I first came to this university, you saw the miserable condition of the halls. From that situation, a new reading room has now been established in this hall and an AC has been installed there. Besides, water filters and Wi-Fi routers have also been installed in the hall.”

He further said, “Proposals for four new halls have also been sent to the ministry. If everything goes as planned, construction work on those halls will begin very soon.”

Rafayel Imtiaz Yamin, a university student, said, “The condition of the hall was very poor in the past. From that situation, we now have a beautiful reading room. There is also a new AC in the reading room. Previously, there was no such favourable environment for students to study; it was even difficult to find a place to study.”

He added, “But now, it is difficult to find seats in the library and reading room. Everyone is now spending most of their time studying in the reading room and library.”

Demanding further infrastructural development of the halls, he said, “As our halls have not been modernised, they look somewhat like small bird nests. I demand that attention be given to ensuring that the halls to be constructed in the future are modern and structurally well-developed.”

Among others, BRUR Registrar (additional charge) Professor Dr Md Ferdous Rahman and Bijoy-24 Hall Provost Md Amir Sharif were present at the event. Assistant provosts of the hall, students, officials and employees were also present.
