Special Correspondent: Speakers at a discussion meeting in Dhaka have stressed that ulema (Islamic scholars) must play a responsible role in promoting the welfare, unity and moral development of the Muslim Ummah.
They made the remarks at a discussion meeting organised by Majlisul Ulama Al-Waizeen Bangladesh on the role of ulema in addressing contemporary challenges facing the Muslim community.
The speakers said Islamic scholars have an important responsibility to guide people towards peace, justice, morality and social harmony. They also emphasised the need for ulema to remain united and work for the welfare of society while addressing emerging social and religious challenges.
They called for greater cooperation among Islamic scholars and urged them to provide proper guidance to the younger generation and contribute to building a peaceful and disciplined society.
The programme was attended by a number of Islamic scholars and representatives of the organisation. The speakers also discussed various contemporary issues concerning the Muslim community and the responsibilities of ulema in the present context.
