Under the strategic guidance of the leaders of China and Togo in recent years, bilateral relations have steadily scaled new heights. No matter how the international landscape may shift, China remains committed to standing as Togo’s trusted brother and partner, consolidating mutual political trust, deepening multi-sector cooperation, and better facilitating the modernization drives of both nations. Chinese Premier Li Qiang made these remarks during talks with Faure Gnassingbé, President of Togo, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on the afternoon of Thursday, October 15.
During the meeting, Premier Li noted that President Xi Jinping and President Faure had jointly elevated bilateral ties to a China-Togo community with a shared future in the new era.
Premier Li further stated that China is willing to align its development strategies deeply with Togo, explore and expand fresh avenues of cooperation, and enhance collaboration in areas such as connectivity, infrastructure, agricultural modernization, and financing, thereby jointly accelerating the pace of bilateral development.
He emphasized that China welcomes greater imports of quality products from Togo and encourages the country to leverage China’s zero-tariff policy and green-channel trade mechanisms.
Li added that both sides can strengthen exchanges in healthcare, youth, culture, think tanks, and sub-national cooperation. China stands ready to work with Togo and other African nations to proactively implement the "Ten Partnership Actions" outlined for China-Africa cooperation.
President Faure affirmed that Togo steadfastly adheres to the One-China principle. He stated that his country is eager to expand pragmatic cooperation with China in trade, investment, agricultural products, customs, science and technology, artificial intelligence, infrastructure, and education and training.
He highlighted Togo’s advocacy for resolving African disputes and hotspot issues through dialogue, underscoring Togo’s readiness to deepen multilateral cooperation with China to safeguard regional peace and stability.
Following the talks, the two leaders jointly witnessed the signing of multiple bilateral cooperation agreements spanning supply chain resilience, human resource development, digital trade, customs inspection and quarantine, and media engagement.
