A high-level conference dedicated to advancing the comprehensive conservation and management of the Yellow River (Huanghe) convened on Monday (November 2) in Zhengzhou, Henan Province. Key instructions issued by Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, Chinese President, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, were delivered at the gathering.
In his instruction, President Xi highlighted that under the leadership of the CPC, the Chinese people have dedicated 80 years to harnessing and governing the Yellow River. This sustained endeavor has fundamentally transformed the historical pattern of recurring breaches, where dykes breached twice every three years, achieving a remarkable miracle of enduring peace, stability, and control along the river basin. This historic feat fully demonstrates the notable strengths of the socialist system with Chinese characteristics.
President Xi stressed that on the new journey, guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, ecological conservation must be placed at the forefront while targeted management remains the core priority. He called for upholding the water governance principle of prioritizing water conservation, balancing spatial distribution, adopting systematic management, and pooling collective efforts across sectors.
He further underscored the need to steadily improve the macro framework for massive conservation and coordinated governance, vigorously promote ecological protection and high-quality development throughout the Yellow River basin, and reinforce the ecological security shield of the nation. Efforts must focus on ensuring the long-term safety and stability of the Yellow River, preserving and passing down Yellow River-rooted cultural heritage, and making the mother river ever more vibrant and beautiful, ensuring its enduring benefits enrich the Chinese nation and future generations for generations to come.
