The letter also mentioned SOAS University authorities also specially considered Dr Atiur Rahman`s leading role in `pro-poverty government expenditure policy, environment and climate change, sustainable development and financial inclusion and innovative social activities during his tenure as the 10th Governor of Bangladesh Bank.

In 2023, four international personalities received such honorary doctorate from SOAS University. They are India`s renowned screenwriter Javed Akhtar (Doctor of Literature), London-based culinary artist Asma Khan (Doctor of Science, Social Science), UK-based public health expert Professor Kevin Fenton (Doctor of Literature), and internally acclaimed Buddhist scholar Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche (fellow).

It was learned that Dr Atiur Rahman will receive the honorary degree in the annual graduation ceremony of SOAS University of London in September 2024. The university authorities hope that young students in the program will be inspired by the outstanding contribution of Dr Atiur Rahman to Bangladesh and the world`s development.
