Tarique Rahman Has No Alternative in Restoring Democracy : Engr. Shanto

Kamrul Hasan: Engineer Moinul Islam Khan Shanto, former Member of Parliament, former General Secretary of Manikganj District BNP, and BNP’s nominated candidate for Manikganj-2 constituency, has said that there is no alternative to BNP’s Acting Chairman and National Leader Tarique Rahman in restoring Bangladesh’s independence, sovereignty, democracy, and the people’s fundamental rights.

He made this remark while addressing a campaign and discussion meeting held on Saturday afternoon at the old Arat premises of Islamnagar Bazar in Singair upazila. The event was organized by the Talebpur Union BNP as part of the campaign to publicize the 31-point reform plan announced by Tarique Rahman for rebuilding the state structure ahead of the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election.

The meeting was presided over by former Union BNP President Md. Lutfar Rahman (Rahman), and conducted by Union BNP Organizing Secretary Shariful Islam Meghu and Jubo Dal Convener Golam Maula.

Among others present were District BNP Convening Committee members Abdul Mannan and Mohammad Alauddin, former Acting President of Singair Upazila BNP Dr. Shafiuddin Ahmed, Singair Sadar Union Parishad Chairman Jahinur Rahman Sourav, Acting Convener of Upazila Jubo Dal Manjurul Islam Monju, Member Secretary Ismail Hossain, Joint Conveners Rafiqul Islam and Md. Ahsan Ullah Babu, Union BNP General Secretary Awlad Hossain, Joint Conveners of Jubo Dal Kohinur Islam Sumon, Robin Mushfiq, and Mahim Khan, Upazila Chhatra Dal Convener Mahbubur Rahman Rony, Member Secretary Mohammad Munna, Union Chhatra Dal Convener Saidur Rahman Jalal, Member Secretary Mahbub Hossain, as well as hundreds of leaders, activists, and local residents.

“Implementation of the 31-Point Reform Plan Is Key to Rebuilding the Nation”

In his keynote address, Engineer Moinul Islam Khan Shanto said:

“Protecting national sovereignty, ensuring people’s fundamental rights, and strengthening the organization under the leadership of National Leader Tarique Rahman are the core objectives of the BNP. The fulfillment of the 31-point reform plan is the only way to rebuild the nation’s structure.”

He further stated, “Under the visionary leadership of Tarique Rahman, the joint struggle of the BNP and the people has already toppled autocracy. Now, it is time to transform that struggle into sustainable national development. We must uphold the ideals of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and continue the country’s progress.”

Discussing the current political context, Shanto said: “As part of fulfilling the people’s 17-year-long aspiration, the interim government has decided to hold the next national election in February 2026. However, a vested group is now hatching a new conspiracy under the name of the ‘PR system’ to sabotage the election process. This anti-national force must be resisted through united efforts for the sake of the country’s welfare.”

He urged party leaders and activists to play an active role in ensuring the victory of the Sheaf of Paddy (BNP’s election symbol), adding that,

“Both men and women must play a leading role in the struggle to restore the people’s right to vote and revive true democracy in Bangladesh.”

At the end of the event, Engineer Shanto prayed for the speedy recovery of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and for the good health and long life of Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, seeking everyone’s prayers for the peace and prosperity of the nation.
