A Dhaka court today (October 17) showed former food minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder, former land minister Narayan Chandra Chanda and Diamond World Limited managing director Dilip Kumar Agarwala arrested in a case lodged over the murder of BNP activist Md Mokbul in the capital.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ali Haider passed the order as police produced the three accused before the court and pleaded to show them arrested.

A team of detective branch (DB) of police arrested Sadhan from the capital`s Bashundhara residential area on October 3, while Narayan was detained by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on October 6 from Maheshpur frontier in Jhenaidah district as he was trying to flee the country.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Dilip Kumar Agarwala from the capital`s Gulshan area on September 3.

According to the case documents, BNP leaders and activists as part of their party program on December 10, 2022, began to gather in the capital. Marking the programme, police and AL men created a ruckus in front of the BNP headquarters in Naya Paltan on December 7. They entered the BNP office, charged batons and opened fire at the BNP men, injuring Mokbul critically.

Mokbul later died from his injuries at the hospital. The case was filed on September 30, 2024.
