  Date : 10-07-2025

Selina Hayat Ivy, former mayor of Narayanganj City Corporation and former senior vice-president of the district Awami League, has been sent to jail in connection with a murder case.

She was produced before the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Moinuddin Kadir in a case filed at Siddhirganj Police Station on Friday morning. Following the hearing, the court ordered her to be sent to jail.

Court Police Inspector Md Kaiyum Khan confirmed the matter.

He said Ivy has been shown arrested in a case filed over the killing of Monirul Islam, who was shot dead during an anti-discrimination student protest in Siddhirganj. The court has fixed May 26 as the next hearing date.

The case was filed on September 3 by the victim’s brother, Nazmul Haque. Ivy has been named the 12th accused in the first information report (FIR), which includes a total of 130 named individuals and 300 unidentified persons.

Ivy was arrested early Friday morning from Chunka Kutir in the Deobhog area of the city.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operations) of Narayanganj, Tarek Al Mehdi, said Ivy faces a total of five cases — four filed with Siddhirganj Police Station and one with Fatullah Police Station — on charges including murder and attempted murder during the recent anti-discrimination movement.

She has been arrested in connection with one of the cases filed at Siddhirganj Police Station and was taken there for further legal procedures, the police officer added.
