Hasan Mahmud become the Community Director of GivingTuesday Movement

Senior Reporter: Journalist and organizer Hasan Mahmud has joined the globally acclaimed GivingTuesday movement. He has been appointed as the Director (Communities) of GivingTuesday Bangladesh for the next two years.

GivingTuesday Bangladesh confirmed his position on Monday (June 16). He has been appointed for the period from June 21, 2025 to June 20, 2027.

This volunteer position plays a crucial role in fostering meaningful relationships with communities, promoting volunteerism, and driving impactful initiatives across diverse regions. His primary responsibilities are building and maintain strong relationships with local communities, organizations, and volunteer groups. Organize and oversee community engagement events, workshops, and awareness campaigns. Recruit and manage community-based volunteers, ensuring they are actively engaged and well-supported. Create opportunities for volunteers to contribute meaningfully to community projects and so on.

The Giving Tuesday movement is a global generosity movement that encourages people to do good through various actions, including donating, volunteering, and sharing skills. To join the movement, a person can contribute as an Advocate, Volunteer or Fundraiser. People connected to this movement can participate by organizing local events, raising awareness, or engaging with charities, businesses, and community leaders. Also can join a local movement or start one in own area.

GivingTuesday was initiated in 2012 by Henry Timms at the 92nd Street Y in New York. The co-founding organization was the United Nations Foundation, with support from BLK SHP (Black Sheep). It was created as a day for individuals to give back to their communities and has since grown into a worldwide phenomenon, uniting millions of people in acts of kindness. Giving Tuesday is not just a single event but a global movement that takes place in over 100 countries.

Country Leader and CEO of GivingTuesday Bangladesh, Shakil Azad Monon said, GivingTuesday is a global movement that celebrates the power of generosity. Hasan Mahmud is eminent Journalist and social activist. It is an unpaid role, offering the opportunity to make significant contributions while developing his leadership and professional expertise.

Hasan Mahmud is the Chief Reporter of the country’s popular news portal risingbd.com. He also is serving as the president of two organizations. International Relations Reporters Forum (IRF) and Cure SMA Bangladesh. Cure SMA Bangladesh is the only organization working for the welfare of SMA patients in Bangladesh.

For his outstanding contribution to journalism and Social works he awarded Sher-e-Bangla Gold Medal Award-2024, ‘Joint Media Fellowship-2024’ from the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection and the Association of Skincare and Beauty Products Manufacturers and Importers of Bangladesh (ASBMEB), Bangladesh Writers Guild Special Award in 2021 and Dhaka Reporters Unity Writers Award 2018.
