Dengue has claimed two more lives in Bangladesh in the last 24 hours until Wednesday morning, bringing the total number of fatalities from mosquito-borne disease to 60 so far this year, according to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

During the same period, 321 new patients were admitted to hospitals with dengue, raising the total number of reported cases across the country to 15,906 in 2025.

The DGHS reported that the new cases were distributed across various regions.

Outside Dhaka city, Barishal Division recorded the highest number of cases with 110 infections. Chattogram reported 31 new cases, followed by Khulna with 27, Rajshahi with 57, Mymensingh with 10, Rangpur with two, Sylhet with one, and Dhaka Division outside the city recorded nine cases. Within the capital, 27 new patients were admitted in Dhaka North City Corporation areas and 47 in Dhaka South.

Bangladesh has been battling seasonal dengue outbreaks every year, with 2023 marking the deadliest on record. That year, 1,705 people died due to dengue and the DGHS recorded a total of 321,179 cases and 318,749 recoveries.

Health officials continue to urge the public to take preventive measures and remain vigilant, especially during the monsoon season when dengue transmission typically peaks.
