Online Report : The water level of the Jamuna River continues to rise in Sirajganj, driven by onrushing waters from upstream and persistent heavy rainfall.
Over the past 24 hours, water levels at Sirajganj and Kazipur points have increased by 7 centimeters, now flowing 147 centimeters below the official danger mark.
This marks the third rise in recent weeks and has already begun affecting low-lying areas across five upazilas: Kazipur, Belkuchi, Shahzadpur, Chauhali, and Sirajganj Sadar.
Several agricultural lands and homes have been lost to river erosion, sparking fears of potential flooding among local residents.
Crops including jute, sugarcane, and peanuts are submerged in many areas, while erosion is intensifying in vulnerable char regions.
The Water Development Board is monitoring the situation and implementing preventive measures in erosion-prone zones.
According to officials, while the river may continue to swell in the coming days, there is currently no immediate threat of a major flood.
