2 women among 3 killed in lightning strike in Cumilla

(BSS)- Two women and an unidentified man were killed in a lightning strike in the district today.

The incident took place at around 3:30 pm in Bhabanipur Ghat area under Homna upazila.

Homna Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Khemalika Chakma said three people died in the lightning strike, while the local administration is taking measures to help the family members of the deceased.

Locals said a few women and men were waiting to cross a river at Bhabanipur Ghat in the afternoon and suddenly, clouds overcast in the sky and heavy rain started accompanied by lightning.

At that time, two women and a man died on the spot in the lightning strike.

The deceased are identified as Zakia Begum (35) and Momtaz Begum (30) of Nala Dakshin village, and the other (40) could not be identified.

Several others reportedly sustained minor injuries in the incident.

Homna Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Jibon Biswas said on information, police rushed to the spot and the process of handing bodies of the victims over to the families is underway.
