International Desk: During a recent visit to Tanzania, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi highlighted the story of the Tanzania–Zambia Railway and the enduring friendship between China and Africa at a joint press conference with his Tanzanian counterpart in Dar es Salaam.
Wang Yi recalled that in the 1960s, China dispatched a large number of technical experts to support the development of Tanzania and Zambia. Despite facing numerous challenges, China worked alongside African partners to build the Tanzania–Zambia Railway for the benefit of the African people. He noted that China’s assistance to Tanzania was rooted in the shared historical experiences, common aspirations, and aligned goals of China and Africa.
“We are brothers, comrades, partners, and friends,” Wang Yi said. “We should work together to achieve national development through self-reliance and continuously improve the well-being of our peoples.”
He further emphasized that the story of the Tanzania–Zambia Railway is widely known in China, and the friendship between China and Africa is deeply ingrained in the hearts of the Chinese people. “China and Tanzania once built this railway together; today, we will pursue modernization together,” Wang Yi stated, reaffirming China’s willingness to further deepen its traditional friendship and cooperation with Tanzania.
