BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed on Saturday alleged that a political party is attempting tactical withdrawal from the upcoming election and assured that BNP would not allow such maneuvers to succeed.
Speaking at a dialogue with families of victims of enforced disappearance, murder and torture during previous governments, held at China-Bangladesh Friendship Conference Centre in Dhaka, Salahuddin said, “Those trying to obstruct the path of democracy will not succeed and democratic governance will inevitably return to Bangladesh.”
The event was jointly organised by Mayer Daak and Amra BNP Poribar, with participants from across the country.
He added that BNP would also appeal to Election Commission to ensure a level playing field for all contestants.
Commenting on BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman’s ongoing Northern Bangladesh tour, Salahuddin noted that party programmes had been temporarily suspended at the request of Election Commission “in the interest of peace.”
He warned that some political parties and officials mistakenly perceive this civility as weakness, emphasizing that it is instead a demonstration of the party’s commitment to maintaining humility and peace while advancing democracy.
The dialogue session, chaired by Amra BNP Poribar Convenor Atikur Rahman Rumon and co-hosted by Sanjida Islam Tuli, Zahidul Islam Roni and Moksedul Momin Mithun, also featured speeches by BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman, Senior Joint Secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Treasurer Rashiduzzaman Millat and other party leaders.
