7 more die from measles, symptoms in 24hrs

Seven more children have died in the last 24 hours due to measles and suspected measles-related symptoms, according to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Among them, two deaths were confirmed as measles cases, while five children died showing symptoms consistent with the disease.

The information was released on Monday through an official notice published on DGHS website, covering data from Sunday 8:00 AM to Monday 8:00 AM.

Government data shows that since March 15, a total of 30 deaths have been confirmed due to measles infection.

The highest number of deaths occurred in Dhaka with 17 fatalities, followed by Barishal with five. Chattogram and Rajshahi each reported three deaths (six combined), while Mymensingh recorded two.

During the same period, 156 deaths have been reported nationwide among patients who showed symptoms consistent with measles.

In the last 24 hours alone, 82 new measles cases have been confirmed.

Additionally, 1,371 patients with measles-like symptoms sought treatment at hospitals, of whom 729 required admission.

Dhaka hospitals recorded the highest number of admissions, with 274 patients hospitalized during this time.

Since March 15, a total of 17,024 patients with suspected measles symptoms have visited hospitals across the country.

Among them, 10,954 were admitted for treatment. Meanwhile, 2,721 cases have been laboratory-confirmed as measles infections.
