Grandmother hacked to death by drug-addicted grandson in Phulpur
  Date : 30-04-2026

Mijanur Rahman Akanda, Phulpur Correspondent: A drug-addicted grandson brutally hacked his elderly grandmother to death in Phulpur, Mymensingh.

The incident occurred around 9:30 pm on Wednesday in Jatia village under Rambhadrapur Union of Phulpur upazila.

According to locals, the victim, Ayesha Akter, 78, lived in the same house as the assailant, her grandson Jasim Uddin, 28, who is known in the area as a drug-addicted delinquent.

Jasim’s father died earlier, and his mother remarried and moved away. Instead of transferring land to her drug-addicted son, she handed it over to her sister-in-law. Jasim often quarreled with his grandmother demanding the land be returned.

On Wednesday night, another argument broke out between the two. At one point during the dispute, Jasim hacked his grandmother to death with a machete in the courtyard of the house.

Locals later caught him and handed him over to police.

Phulpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Rashedul Hasan said the suspect has been detained. The body was recovered and sent to the morgue for autopsy. Legal action in the case is underway.
