China to Lead Security Council with Focus on Peace and Multilateralism
  Date : 01-05-2026

International: Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian answered questions from journalists during a regular press briefing on Thursday, April 30. In response to a question regarding China’s upcoming role as the rotating president of the United Nations Security Council for May, Lin outlined Beijing’s priorities and expected contributions during its presidency.

Lin Jian stated that China will officially assume the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council starting May 1. He noted that the current international landscape remains highly unstable and complex, with regional conflicts continuing in several parts of the world. As the Security Council bears the primary responsibility for maintaining international peace and security, its role remains critically important, he said, adding that China attaches great importance to undertaking the presidency.

According to Lin, China will work with a responsible and constructive approach to strengthen unity and cooperation within the Security Council, uphold fairness and openness, promote political solutions through practical efforts, and ensure the effective fulfillment of responsibilities entrusted under the UN Charter.

He further expressed hope that the international community would support China’s presidency and assist the Security Council in advancing its agenda for May. He also emphasized the importance of promoting genuine multilateralism and making greater contributions to global peace and development.
