  Date : 22-05-2026

No lawyer of the Dhaka Bar Association will stand for the accused in the case filed over the rape and murder of eight-year-old Ramisa Akter in the capital`s Pallabi area.

The decision was taken unanimously at a virtual meeting of the executive committee of the Dhaka Bar Association today.

"We have unanimously decided at today`s executive committee meeting that no lawyer of the Dhaka Bar will fight the case on behalf of the accused in the Ramisa murder case," Dhaka Bar Association General Secretary Kalam Khan told BSS.

According to the case statement, Ramisa Akter, a class-II student of Popular Model High School, was allegedly raped and murdered at a house adjacent to Millat Camp under Pallabi Police Station on May 19.

Following the incident, Ramisa`s father Abdul Hannan Molla filed a case with Pallabi Police Station on May 20, accusing Sohel Rana and his wife Swapna Akter.

Police later arrested the two accused.

On May 20, the prime accused Sohel Rana, 30, gave a confessional statement before the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Aminul Islam Junayed.

On the same day, the court ordered that Sohel`s wife Swapna Akter, 26, be sent to jail.
