Beijing Stands with DR Congo Amid Ebola Public Health Emergency
  Date : 03-06-2026

International Desk: China is sending a team of medical experts to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo) to support efforts to contain the ongoing Ebola outbreak. The National Health Commission of China announced on Monday that the expert team would depart from Beijing for DR Congo early Tuesday morning.

The decision comes after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the Ebola outbreak in DR Congo a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on May 17, prompting an enhanced international response.

According to Chinese health authorities, the team—comprising experienced medical and public health specialists—will work closely with the Chinese medical mission already operating in DR Congo. The experts will also coordinate with local health authorities to strengthen disease surveillance, clinical treatment, prevention measures, and outbreak response capabilities.

Officials said the deployment reflects China’s continued commitment to international cooperation in combating infectious diseases and safeguarding global public health. The medical specialists will share their expertise and practical experience while assisting local healthcare institutions in improving Ebola prevention, control, and treatment capacities.

Prior to the latest deployment, China’s 24th Medical Team in DR Congo had already activated emergency response mechanisms and established a comprehensive prevention and control framework. The team has been conducting training sessions, emergency drills, equipment coordination, and medical support activities to help strengthen local preparedness.

Chinese healthcare professionals on the ground are currently working on the front lines to protect both local communities and Chinese nationals living in the country.
