Md. Mizanur Rahman, Chapainawabganj: A sub-centre of the Bangladesh National Society for the Blind’s Eye Hospital has been formally inaugurated in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj. The initiative is expected to make affordable eye care services more accessible for residents of the upazila as well as people living in the Padma River’s char areas.

The sub-centre was inaugurated on Saturday (July 11) at noon at the Water Supply intersection in Shibganj by Dr. Keramat Ali, Member of Parliament for Chapainawabganj-1 (Shibganj), by cutting a ribbon.

The inauguration ceremony was organized by the Chapainawabganj district branch of the Bangladesh National Society for the Blind and was presided over by district branch president Nazrul Islam.

Special guests at the event included district branch general secretary Abdul Hakim, Adina Fazlul Haque Government College Principal Professor Dr. Mazharul Islam Turu, Assistant Professor of Shibganj Upazila Health Complex Dr. Mamun Kabir, prominent businessman Ashraful Alam Rashid, and other local dignitaries.

Speakers at the event said that for a long time, poor and underprivileged people in rural areas have been deprived of easy access to eye care services. With the opening of the new sub-centre, people will now be able to receive basic eye treatment and consultations for only Tk 100.

They further said that the sub-centre would play an important role in bringing eye care services to the doorsteps of residents of Shibganj and the remote char areas along the Padma River. They expressed hope that the facility would help reduce medical expenses for disadvantaged people and ensure better healthcare services for them.
