INTERNATIONAL: A familiar scene is unfolding at China`s ports: ships bound for destinations around the world are being loaded with new energy vehicles and a wide range of smart products. Increasingly, China`s advanced manufacturing is supplying global markets with innovative and environmentally friendly technologies.
According to official Chinese data, the country`s total imports and exports of goods reached 30.13 trillion yuan during the first seven months of this year, representing a 17.3 percent increase compared with the same period last year. Exports rose 14 percent, while imports climbed 22 percent.
A notable highlight was the performance of high-tech exports. In July, exports of high-tech products surged 50 percent, accounting for nearly 60 percent of the overall increase in exports.
International media outlets, including Reuters, have noted that China`s trade performance has exceeded expectations despite the rise of global protectionism. They also highlighted China`s strong performance in cutting-edge sectors such as artificial intelligence.
Explaining the factors behind China`s trade growth, Professor Wang Xiaosong of Renmin University of China said the country possesses one of the world`s most comprehensive industrial systems, enabling it to maintain efficient production while supporting large-scale imports. He added that China`s vast domestic market, strong innovation capacity and continued commitment to expanding openness have provided a solid foundation for sustained foreign trade growth.
Alongside the expansion of trade, China`s export structure is becoming increasingly green. During the first seven months of the year, exports of electric vehicles, lithium batteries and wind power generator sets increased by 71.2 percent, 35.8 percent and 34.8 percent, respectively. High-end manufacturing products are emerging as a new engine of China`s export growth while providing global markets with advanced and environmentally friendly solutions.
China is playing an increasingly important role not only as the "world`s factory" but also as a major global marketplace. During the same period, the country`s imports grew 8 percent faster than exports, creating new business opportunities, employment and economic benefits for its trading partners.
China has already implemented zero-tariff policies for 63 countries and has remained the world`s second-largest importer for 17 consecutive years, underscoring the country`s commitment to opening its market to the world.
Looking ahead, China will host the 2026 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS) and the China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT) next month. Through these platforms, China aims to continue sharing development opportunities, expanding international cooperation and contributing to global economic growth.
