Thakurgaon Correspondent: Delowar Hossain, the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami-nominated candidate backed by an 11-party alliance, has submitted his nomination paper to contest the by-election to the Thakurgaon-1 (Sadar) constituency.
He submitted the nomination paper to Thakurgaon District Election Officer Md Kamrul Islam at his office on Saturday (September 26).
A number of leaders of the alliance and Jamaat were present during the submission, including Thakurgaon district Jamaat Ameer Prof Belal Uddin Pradhan, district secretary Alamgir Hossain, assistant secretary Kafiluddin Ahmed, Dhaka South City Jamaat assistant media secretary Ashraful Alam Emon, NCP district member secretary Khalilur Rahman, Khelafat Majlis district leader Maulana Rafiqul Islam, Jatiya Ganatantrik Party (JAGPA) district president Jalal Hossain and Islami Chhatra Shibir Thakurgaon district president Anis Ahmed.
Officials of the district election office were also present.
Earlier, the Thakurgaon district unit of Jamaat organised a doa and discussion programme ahead of the nomination submission.
Delowar Hossain attended the programme as the chief guest. He is a former central president of Islami Chhatra Shibir, a member of Jamaat’s Central Majlis-e-Shura and assistant secretary of the party’s Dhaka South City unit.
Leaders and activists from different levels of Thakurgaon Jamaat and Islami Chhatra Shibir, as well as local leaders of the 11-party alliance, attended the programme.
With the submission of his nomination paper, Delowar Hossain has formally entered the electoral process for the Thakurgaon-1 by-election. The final contest will become clearer after scrutiny of nomination papers, withdrawal of candidacies and allocation of electoral symbols.
