| Sabbir Hossain, Kaliganj: Without holding any public office, Muhammad Mahmudul Hasan, a permanent resident of Cheladi (Khagrar Char) village in Jamalpur Union under KaliganjUpazila of Gazipur, has emerged as a source of hope and inspiration for his community. Through years of self-funded social welfare initiatives, he has earned the trust and affection of local residents by consistently standing beside the poor and underprivileged. According to local sources, Hasan has been working tirelessly to address various socio-economic challenges in the area using his personal funds. His notable initiatives include repairing unpaved village roads, providing financial assistance and clothing to needy families, installing tubewells to ensure access to safe drinking water, and covering wedding expenses for girls from underprivileged families. To promote self-reliance among rural farmers, he has distributed livestock, including cows and goats, as well as agricultural inputs such as pesticides. His social welfare activities also include constructing and renovating homes for homeless people, building mosques, and renovating local madrasas and orphanages. Beyond infrastructure development and financial assistance, Hasan has demonstrated a strong commitment to disability inclusion and environmental conservation. He has distributed wheelchairs to people with disabilities and released fish fry into open water bodies to help preserve aquatic biodiversity. His public awareness campaigns against drug abuse and dengue have also drawn praise from local residents. "He has earned the trust and affection of people from all walks of life by prioritising public welfare over political ambitions," said a resident of Jamalpur Union. Community members believe that dedicated individuals like Hasan can play an important role in building a safer and more harmonious society, free from extortion, terrorism, mugging and harassment through false legal cases. With the next local government elections approaching, many residents hope that Hasan will contest and win an elected representative position, enabling him to expand his social welfare activities and work more effectively to protect the fundamental rights and improve the living standards of the local community.
