Special Correspondent: A large number of patients, relatives and visitors gathered at the SEOK Healthcare stall during the three-day BTM Fair at Hotel InterContinental Dhaka to learn about advanced medical treatment available in China, particularly for cancer and other complex diseases.
A Chinese medical delegation, including Dr. Zhu Wenzhong, Stella Chan, Bill Xu and Mushdaq Hasti, along with representatives of Foshan Fosun Chancheng Hospital, took part in the fair and discussed specialised treatment options with visitors.
SEOK Healthcare Chairman MM Masumuzzaman said many families facing cancer struggle not only with the disease but also with uncertainty over diagnosis, specialist opinions, treatment choices, costs and overseas medical options.
He said SEOK Healthcare is working with Chinese hospitals to create a coordinated pathway for Bangladeshi patients, beginning with the review of medical reports, pathology, diagnostic images and previous treatment. Patients may also receive virtual consultations and second opinions before travelling abroad.
The organisation provides assistance with hospital referrals, visas, travel, accommodation, language support, treatment coordination and follow-up after patients return to Bangladesh, he said.
Foshan Fosun Chancheng Hospital offers chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, modern radiotherapy and multidisciplinary cancer care. Its proton therapy centre, opened in December 2024, is described by the hospital as the first of its kind in southern China. According to hospital information, more than 80 patients had received treatment there by April 2026.
Doctors, however, stress that advanced treatments such as proton therapy must be considered on a case-by-case basis after careful medical assessment.
The latest Dhaka initiative follows a March 2026 visit by a Bangladeshi delegation to Guangzhou, where precision oncology, international patient services, referral procedures and insurance assistance were discussed. In May, the Guangzhou centre presented its proton therapy and precision oncology services at the 17th International Medical Equipment Exhibition in Dhaka.
SEOK Healthcare says it has served more than 4,000 patients over the past three years and is connected with more than 75 hospitals and institutions worldwide, with a network of over 1,000 doctors affiliated with internationally recognised institutions.
The growing cooperation between SEOK Healthcare and Chinese medical institutions is opening another avenue for Bangladeshi patients seeking specialised treatment abroad. Medical experts, however, emphasise that patients should make such decisions only after understanding the expected benefits, risks, treatment duration, total cost and arrangements for follow-up care at home.
