Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami finds the announcement of holding the next general election in February as a positive move and it insisted that the polls must take place based on the `July Charter`.
Jamaat Nayeb-e-Amir Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher said this while delivering the party`s official reaction on the `July Declaration` and Chief Adviser`s address to nation in a press conference at Al Falah Auditorium in Dhaka`s Moghbazar on Wednesday, August 6.
Mentioning that the `July Declaration` has been unveiled without discussion with major political parties, he said, "It would be better if the government discussed with political parties.”
Taher said the government must give `July Declaration` a constitutional foundation and it must be included into the constitution.
"Jamaat amir had previously said the elections will have to be held in February before Ramadan and the Chief Adviser`s announcement is so. It is positive," the Jamaat leader said.
Asked whether Jamaat will be firm on its demand to hold the elections in proportional representation system, he said, "I think PR method is a milestone for holding a fair election. The traditional election of 54 years ago is not suitable for the country."
