3 drown in Gopalganj ponds

Three individual have died in separate drowning incidents at Kotaliapara upazila in Gopalganj district on Friday.

The incidents took place in Purbo Naiarbari and Dakkhin Hiron villages in the upazila.

The deceased were identified as Sajal Baroi, 20, son of Pankaj Baroi of Naiarbari village, Anuchhoa Baroi, 7, daughter of Shankar Baroi of Naiarbari village and Ishaq, 4, son of Enayet Hossain Sheikh of Dakkhin Hiron village. Sajal and Anuchhoa were cousins in relation.

According to police, Sajal went to bath in a pond near his house with his cousin in the afternoon and drowned while swimming.

Later, family members rescued them and took to Kotalipara Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctors declared them dead.

In a separate incident, Ishaq died after falling into a pond near his house while playing in Dakkhin Hiron village.

Kotalipara Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Abul Kalam Azad confirmed the incident.
