2 drown in Sherpur lake

Two young girls drowned while collecting water lilies in a lake in Sherpur district on Friday.

The deceased were identified as Fahima Akter Nun, 9 and Jemy, 8, went to Baleshwar Lake in Chakpara area of Gazirkhamar union at around 10 AM and did not return home, prompting family members to search for them.

According to locals, the girls fell into a deep part of the pond while picking flowers.

Later, locals recovered their bodies from the lake.

Sherpur Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Zubaidul Alam confirmed the incident and said that legal actions are underway.

He also added that the families of the victims requested to hand over the bodies without autopsy.
