Student suspended over rape threat to DUCSU polls candidate
  Date : 03-09-2025

Dhaka University has suspended Ali Husen, a Sociology Department student from the 2020-2021 session, for six months for threatening to rape a DUCSU election candidate.

At the same time, the complaint against Ali Husen has been forwarded to the university’s Committee on Sexual Harassment. The suspension decision was made on Wednesday (September 3) based on the recommendation of the Proctorial Inquiry Committee. This is the maximum punishment the Proctor can impose under university regulations.

The accused student’s class roll is 54, and his registration number is 2020212768. He resides in Shahid Sergeant Zahurul Haque Hall.

Earlier, Islami Chhatra Shibir and the left-leaning panels ‘Oporajeyo 71’ and ‘Odommo 24’ had submitted a written complaint to the university, demanding action against him.

On August 31, BM Fahmida Alam, a candidate for Liberation War and Democratic Movement Affairs secretary from Oporajeyo 71 and Odommo 24, challenged the candidacy of S M Farhad, the GS candidate supported by Chhatra Shibir’s ‘United Students’ Alliance’ panel, in the DUCSU elections through a High Court petition. Following this, Ali Husen posted on Facebook, targeting the student, suggesting that instead of protesting against the High Court, a “mass rape march” should be carried out.

The post quickly went viral on social media, drawing widespread condemnation. In response to the shocking threat, various student organizations, teachers, and fellow students expressed protest through Facebook and other platforms, demanding strict punishment.
