Textbooks to have lesson on voter list, NID

(BSS)- Election Commission (EC) has taken an initiative to include a chapter on the registration process of the voter list and National Identity card (NID) in the primary, secondary and higher secondary textbooks.

The EC already has formed a high profile committee for collecting write ups for textbooks on the voter list and importance of the NID. The EC recently has extended the time frame of the committee up to September 30.

Committee convener and Election Training Institute (ETI) Director General SM Asaduzzaman told BSS that the activities of the committee have already begun.

It is a creative work and time has been sought to extend the time up to September 30, he said, adding that contents on the matters and write ups form creative authors will be collected for this purpose.

Recently a letter signed by director of NID registration section Mohammad Habibur Rahman has been sent to the concerned officials.

The letter said, It is very important to create awareness about voter registration and national identity cards among the current generation, especially students.

For this reason, it is necessary to include content related to the basic concept, importance, registration process, and use of voter lists and national identity cards in primary, secondary, and higher secondary textbooks, it said.

It will help students to get a clear idea about the subject and acquire practical knowledge, it added.
