Demonstrators vandalised the private residence of Nepal’s President Ramchandra Paudel in Bohratar, Kathmandu, on Tuesday, reportedly setting parts of the property on fire. Eyewitnesses reported heavy smoke rising from the roof as protesters surrounded the premises. Security forces were deployed to the area, though the full extent of the damage remains unclear.
Protesters also gathered near Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli`s private residence in Balkot, demanding accountability for Monday`s fatalities. During the demonstration, the residence were set ablaze. While authorities stated that security forces were instructed to exercise restraint and no live ammunition was authorized, reports of gunfire and bullet injuries emerged.
Meanwhile, Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Ramnath Adhikari resigned on Tuesday, citing the government’s authoritarian response during Monday’s Gen Z protests.
In his resignation letter, Nepali Congress lawmaker Adhikari criticized the state for suppressing citizens’ natural right to question democracy and stage peaceful protests, warning that such actions move the country toward authoritarianism rather than democracy. He said he could not remain in office without answers regarding the government’s use of violence against a generation with which it should cooperate to build the nation.
Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak had also resigned on Monday evening, submitting his resignation to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli following the deadly protests.
