GOP sends letter to CEC to bar AL leaders running independently
  Date : 12-11-2025

Gono Odhikar Parishad (GOP) has sent a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), demanding that no leaders or activists of the Awami League be allowed to contest the upcoming elections as independent candidates.

The party also urged the Election Commission not to invite the Jatiya Party, the 14-party alliance, or any other parties that participated in the 2024 election to its dialogue.

Gono Odhikar’s General Secretary Md Rashed Khan submitted the letter to the CEC at the Election Commission office in Agargaon, Dhaka, on Wednesday (November 12).

Rashed said if any Awami League member is allowed to run as an independent candidate, they might attempt to sabotage the election.

He added that the party has also urged the commission not to invite those who took part in what he termed the “dummy election of 2024” to the upcoming dialogue. “If the Election Commission invites those parties citing their registration, we will launch a movement,” he warned.

In the written letter addressed to the CEC, Rashed Khan stated that the Election Commission should hold dialogues only with the parties that the National Consensus Commission has already engaged in discussions with.
