1.5 lakh fined for sand extraction in Bhola

MA Mannan, Bhola: A mobile court has imposed a fine of 1.5 lakh taka for illegally extracting sand from the river Tetulia using a dredger machine in Borhanuddin upazila of Bhola.

The fine was imposed through a mobile court during a drive in Tetulia River on Saturday.

Upazila Assistant Commissioner (A C Land) and Executive Magistrate Ranjit Chandra Das conducted the drive and fined under the relevant section of the Soil Management Act 2010 through a mobile court. Harun, who was fined as a owner of dredger, is known as a son of Sultan Ahmed of Bapta village in Bhola Sadar upazila.

A team of police from Borhanuddin police station was present during the drive.

The upazila administration said that regular campaigns are underway to prevent illegal extraction of sand and soil from the river.
