Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) convener and Dhaka-11 candidate Nahid Islam has accused rival parties of using family cards and farmer cards as a tactic to buy votes ahead of the upcoming parliamentary election.

He made the remarks on Saturday while campaigning in Dhaka`s Shahjadpur.

Pointing to BNP chairman Tarique Rahman’s promises, Nahid said, “They are trying to buy votes through family cards, farmer cards and similar schemes. But people are not responding to this. Citizens are aware of such false promises, having heard similar claims before.”

He added that voters are now questioning the feasibility of such pledges, insisting that a mere promise is not enough.

Nahid also alleged that BNP-led alliance is giving false assurances without any actionable plan. He said that after 16 years, a fair election environment has been created, encouraging citizens to vote confidently and without fear, even though some areas have been reportedly subjected to intimidation.

The NCP leader claimed that rival candidates are violating electoral codes, including hanging posters on electric poles and removing NCP banners, while the Election Commission has not taken action against them.

Promising to address local issues, Nahid highlighted problems such as water and gas shortages and drug trafficking affecting the youth.

He urged the younger generation to act as “poll guardians” to ensure free and fair voting, warning that NCP will take strict measures if the Election Commission fails to maintain neutrality.

During the day, Nahid Islam campaigned across Bhatara Thana, Bashtola and Subastu Market and attended multiple community meetings.
