  Date : 13-05-2026

International Desk: The 2026 World Digital Education Conference officially opened on Monday, May 11, in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province in eastern China. Held under the theme “AI + Education: Transformation, Development and Governance,” the three-day event aims to create an open and inclusive global platform for dialogue while promoting international consensus and regulatory frameworks on artificial intelligence governance in education.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Chinese Vice President Han Zheng said that President Xi Jinping places great importance on the profound impact of artificial intelligence on education. He noted that China is committed to advancing AI education across all levels of the education system and throughout society in order to cultivate high-quality talent for the future.

Han presented a four-point proposal during his speech.

First, he stressed that all parties should adhere to a people-centered approach, remain committed to the core mission of talent development, and nurture young people capable of problem-solving, lifelong learning, AI literacy and future-oriented leadership.

Second, he called for upholding the principles of inclusiveness and fairness to ensure equal opportunities for all, enabling more people to benefit from the integrated development of digital technology and education.

Third, Han emphasized the importance of promoting “AI for good” in a safe and orderly manner, ensuring that artificial intelligence technologies genuinely contribute to the all-round development of students.

Fourth, he urged greater openness and collaborative innovation, encouraging mutual learning among civilizations, deepening international exchanges and cooperation, and jointly advancing the healthy development of digital education worldwide.

Before the opening ceremony, Vice President Han also visited an exhibition showcasing achievements in the digitalization of education.
