72,000 Iraq-Kuwait returnees deprived of their fair dues, Returnee Welfare Association says in press conference
  Date : 13-05-2026

Staff Reporter : 72,000 returnees from Iraq and Kuwait have been deprived of their fair share for ages. The UN authorities have so far given 5% compensation to 72,000 Bangladeshi workers who returned home empty-handed from the Iraq-Kuwait war in August 1990. The 72,000 victims of the Iraq-Kuwait war have not yet received the declared 95% of their dues. Due to the lack of practical initiatives by the Ministry of Expatriates` Welfare and the BMET authorities, the 72,000 helpless workers who returned to Iraq and Kuwait are living a miserable life without receiving their legal dues.

The 10-point demands of the workers who returned from Iraq and Kuwait must be accepted immediately. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman must take practical initiatives to collect the dues announced by the United Nations for the rehabilitation of the workers who returned from Iraq and Kuwait. The organization`s president, Kazi Nazrul Islam, said these things at a press conference organized by the Iraq-Kuwait Returnee Bangladeshi Welfare Association at the National Press Club hallroom on Wednesday. The press conference, moderated by the organization`s organizing secretary Md. Labib Uddin, was also attended by the organization`s vice president Mizanul Haque Mizan, freedom fighter Haji Abu Taher Sarkar, Secretary General Md. Lokman Hossain, Acting Secretary General Engineer SM Waliullah Dhali, Md. Abdul Hai, Abul Hossain, Khandaker Tofazzal Hossain, Sylhet Division General Secretary Deepak Som, Office Secretary Md. Khorshed Alam, Md. Bachchu Mia, heroic freedom fighter Sirajul Islam Dollar, Md. Ashiq Mia, Abu Ahmed Bhuiyan, Farid Uddin.
