Bashir Al Mamun In Ctg : Eleven-year-old Rashmi Akhter was seriously injured when a miscreant shot her while trying to get paan for her mother in Chattogram. She was then admitted to the ICU of a hospital. Finally, after battling death for six days, she left for the country of no return. He died while undergoing treatment in the ICU of Chittagong Medical College (CMC) Hospital on Thursday morning.
His body has been kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy. It is expected to be handed over to the family after the procedure is completed.
It is learned that on the night of May 7, miscreants opened fire on young man Md. Hasan Raju in Bihari Colony of Raufabad under Bayezid police station in Chattogram city. Reshmi was shot while passing by.
The bullet pierced his left eye and entered his brain inside his head. He was first taken to Chamek Hospital in a seriously injured condition. As there were no ICU beds there, he was transferred to a private hospital. The next day, he was again admitted to the ICU of Chamek Hospital.
She died yesterday morning after being on the verge of death for six consecutive days. Despite having committed no crime and not suffering from any serious disease, Reshmi had to give up her life to a miscreant.
According to family sources, Reshmi is the youngest of five siblings. She is a fourth-grade student at a local school. On the night of the incident, she was shot while going to the shop to buy paan for her mother.
In this incident, Sakhina Begum, the mother of Mohammad Hasan Raju of Kadalpur Union in Raujan, filed a case with Bayezid Bostami Police Station last Saturday, accusing eight to nine unidentified people.
Reshmi`s brother Faisal Ahmed said, "My younger sister had only gone out to buy paan for her mother. She had to leave like this even though she had not committed any crime. We want justice for this murder."
Brigadier General Mohammad Taslim Uddin, director of Chamek Hospital, said, "The child was undergoing treatment at the hospital for seven days. The bullet entered his head through his eye. The bullet could not be removed as his physical condition was bad. The child died this morning while undergoing treatment."
He said, "The bullet in Reshmi`s head damaged a vital part of the brain. Doctors tried their best. But in the end, it was not possible to save her as her physical condition continued to deteriorate."
Doctors said that the bullet entered Reshmi`s head through her left eye. The bullet was lodged in the back of her head. It had pierced her brain. Due to which there was a risk of brain hemorrhage if it was removed. Therefore, the medical board decided not to operate on Reshmi.
