Navy inducts locally-built floating crane into fleet
  Date : 04-06-2026

(BSS) – The Bangladesh Navy today inducted a 70-ton-capacity floating crane, built by the Navy-operated Dockyard and Engineering Works Limited (DEW), into its fleet to enhance logistics, repair and maintenance capabilities.

Named BNFC Boliyan, the crane was formally handed over at a ceremony attended by Chief of Naval Staff Admiral M Nazmul Hassan as the chief guest, said in an ISPR press release.

Built with indigenous technology as part of the Navy’s modernization programme, the floating crane measuring 45 metres in length, 15 metres in breadth and 3 metres in depth can operate at a maximum speed of 10.5 miles per hour.

The platform will support the repair and maintenance of Bangladesh Navy ships at jetties and at sea, while facilitating the lifting, transfer and replacement of heavy machinery and naval equipment.

Construction of the crane commenced with a keel-laying ceremony on June 30, 2024.

The induction of BNFC Boliyan marks a significant step towards strengthening the Navy’s operational and logistical capabilities and highlights the growing capacity of the country’s shipbuilding and defence industries.
