Brunei envoy explores Puthia heritage, praises Bangladesh`s architectural legacy

Rajshahi Bureau: The High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam to Bangladesh, Haji Haris bin Haji Othman, visited the historic Puthia Rajbari and the centuries-old Govinda Temple in Rajshahi on Saturday, expressing deep interest in Bangladesh`s rich archaeological heritage and architectural traditions.

The envoy arrived at the Puthia Rajbari complex by road at around 1:36 pm with a two-member delegation. He was welcomed with floral greetings by Puthia Upazila Nirbahi Officer Liaquat Salman and officials of the Rajbari authority.

During the visit, High Commissioner Haji Haris toured various sections of the historic palace complex and the adjacent Govinda Temple, renowned for its intricate terracotta ornamentation and distinctive traditional architecture. Local officials briefed the delegation on the history of the Puthia Raj family, the architectural significance of the heritage site, and the ongoing initiatives to preserve the centuries-old structures.

The High Commissioner was accompanied by First Secretary Mazi Rozaimi bin Dato Paduka Haji Abdullah and senior journalist and former editor Abdur Rahman.

The delegation spent about 15 minutes exploring the heritage complex before departing for Dhaka at approximately 1:50 pm.

Officials of the local administration said comprehensive security measures had been put in place to ensure the smooth conduct of the visit, which concluded without any incident.

Puthia Rajbari and its temple complex are among the most significant historical and archaeological landmarks in northern Bangladesh. Celebrated for their remarkable architectural beauty and cultural importance, the sites continue to attract tourists, researchers, heritage enthusiasts and foreign diplomats from home and abroad.
