Ambassador Imran Haider Presents Credentials to His Majesty Bhutanese King

Pakistan, Bhutan Explore Trade, Climate and SAARC Cooperation

Special Correspondent: Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh and non-resident Ambassador to Bhutan Imran Haider presented his Letter of Credence to Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck at an elaborate ceremony at Dechenchholing Palace on Friday.
The Bhutanese monarch warmly welcomed Ambassador Haider and congratulated him on his appointment. He also conveyed his best wishes to the people and leadership of Pakistan.
The Ambassador thanked the King and conveyed the greetings and best wishes of Pakistan’s President and Prime Minister. He reaffirmed Islamabad’s commitment to further strengthening friendly relations with Bhutan.
Later in the afternoon, Ambassador Haider called on Bhutanese Foreign Affairs and External Trade Minister Lyonpo D.N. Dhungyel. The minister welcomed the envoy, congratulated him on his appointment and wished him success in carrying out his diplomatic responsibilities.
During the meeting, both sides noted the cordial and friendly relations between Pakistan and Bhutan, based on mutual respect, goodwill and their shared Buddhist heritage. They reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining constructive engagement between the two countries, which have enjoyed diplomatic relations since 1988.
The discussions covered a range of potential areas for greater cooperation, including trade, climate change, disaster management, parliamentary exchanges and the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).
In the evening, Minister Dhungyel hosted a reception in honour of Ambassador Haider. The Officiating Prime Minister, members of the Cabinet and senior government officials attended the reception.
Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Haider expressed his appreciation to the minister for the warm hospitality extended to him and his delegation during their visit to Bhutan.
Ambassador Imran Haider concurrently serves as Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh and non-resident Ambassador to the Kingdom of Bhutan.
