Diplomatic Correspondent : Bangladeshi humanitarian Muhammad Raj has received a Certificate of Appreciation and Recognition from Egypt’s Regional Relief Team for his humanitarian contributions, including support for displaced Palestinians from Gaza and Sudanese refugees in Egypt.
The certificate, signed by Dr Mahmoud Mamdouh, General Supervisor of the Regional Relief Team, acknowledges Raj’s involvement in assisting people affected by conflict, displacement and hardship. It adds to the recognition he has received in Bangladesh and abroad for his humanitarian activities.
As Director General of Hafezzi Charitable Society of Bangladesh, Raj has worked with his team to organise assistance for vulnerable communities at home and overseas. Their activities have included emergency food distribution, clean drinking water, medical assistance and support for people with disabilities and families facing financial hardship.
In Gaza, these efforts have included the distribution of flour, bread, cooked meals and drinking water. In Sudan and among displaced communities in Egypt, Raj and his team have helped mobilise assistance for families struggling to meet their basic needs.
The work involves more than public appeals. Team members and local partners help identify needs, coordinate distributions and document activities, while donors provide the financial support that makes these initiatives possible. The recognition of Raj’s contribution also brings attention to these collective efforts.
Raj’s humanitarian activities and his team’s relief programmes have attracted coverage beyond Bangladesh. Egypt Times and other Egyptian newspapers have featured his work, while television coverage has included Palestine TV and Sudanese broadcasters. International outlets, including Al Jazeera, have also highlighted humanitarian activities associated with his work.
Such coverage has brought the experiences of affected communities to wider audiences. It has also helped draw attention to the role of Bangladeshi donors, volunteers and humanitarian workers in supporting people across borders.
Raj’s personal journey forms another significant part of his public life. Born into a Hindu family, he later embraced Islam and became actively involved in humanitarian service, writing and public engagement. His work has connected his personal commitment to service with organised efforts to assist people facing poverty, illness and displacement.
Alongside overseas relief activities, Raj and his team have supported initiatives in Bangladesh involving food assistance, medical care, rehabilitation and livelihood support. These programmes reflect a continuing focus on both urgent needs and opportunities for people to regain independence.
The recognition from Egypt marks another milestone in that work. It acknowledges Raj’s contribution while highlighting the combined efforts of his team, local partners, volunteers and donors whose support has helped turn humanitarian appeals into practical assistance.
